How to calculate spandex or lycra% from centimeter reading from one cycle of circular knitting
How is the spandex percentage calculated :
At first, we need some apparatus for spandex or lycra percentage calculation.
1. Sewing thread / Yarn Cone
2. Centimeter scale in 100 cm
3. Pen / Black marker /Red leaf marker
4. Calculator
5. Knitting machine
At first, we need to tie up the sewing thread /yarn with the spandex spreader roller and round the machine in one round only. During machine one round how many centimeters of yarn are tied wrapped in the spreader roller that cm we need to measure by a centimeter (cm) scale.
Suppose that, we got 220 cm
If machine dia is 30''
Gauge =24
So total no. of a needle in machine =30x24x3.14
=2260 pcs needle
Now we will convert the centimeter to the millimeter and then divided it by the needle number to get the spandex stitch length.
220 x 10
Spandex stitch length =................................
2260
= 0.97mm
Suppose spandex denier is 30D. 30D = 5315/30=177.17 cotton count
Spandex stitch length
So spandex feed rate =.........................................................................
Spandex in cotton count
0.97
=............................................................
177.17
=0.00547
Suppose the cotton yarn used in this program yarn count is the 30S and yarn stitch length is 3.00 millimeter.
Yarn stitch length
So yarn feed rate =...........................................
Yarn count
3.00
=........................
30
=0.1
So now total feed = Spandex feed rate + cotton feed rate =0.00547+0.1=0.10547
Now we will calculate %,
Spandex %=0.00547*100/0.10547=5.18% (Answer)
Yarn % = 100- spandex%=100-5.18=94.82% (Answer )
