Abrassion & Pilling test

  Abrasion & Pilling test

Abrasion & Pilling is one important tests for knitted fabric. Here in this blog, I am going to discuss the standard operating procedure of a Martindale abrasion & pilling tester. Actually, we test the resistance of the fabric due to rubbing.

When we wear any fabric, it generates small balls on the fabric due to the rubbing between our body and the fabric. This ball gives us a bad feeling in our bodies and impacts our skin.

Preparatory process:

1. Need to check the calibration status of the machine.

2. Need to turn on the electric power switch.

3. Separate the top plate from the machine.

4. Remove all clamping and place a 140mm diameter felt pad on each of the abrasion tables.

5. Need to place a 140mm diameter specimen and gently place the pressing weight on it.

6. Place the clamp ring and lock it firmly in position with a clockwise turn.

Abrasion testing :

1. Need to set all drive roller units in position C.

2. Unscrew the specimen holder and remove the insert. Place the head in the block spanner and lay the sample face-side will be down followed by polyurethane foam if required.

3. Insert the head and body and tight it confirmed.

4. Carefully place the top plate and place a loaded sample holder on each of the abrasion tables.

5. Select the appropriate weight for the test according to the standard and insert the spindle through the bearing housing above it.

6. Locate the spindle in the sample holder bush and press the spindle so it is fully located.

7. Select the number of rubs and press start and check the sample after a certain number of rubs and then record the result.

Pilling test:

We need to follow the below steps to perform the test.

1. Set all 3 drive roller units in position B.

2. Need to place 140mm diameter sample face up over felt instead of abrasive cloth.

3. With the help of the mandrel place sample over the left of the sample holder by the sample retaining ring.

4. Carefully place the top plate and place the loaded sample holder on each of the abrading tables.

5. Locate the spindle in the sample holder bush and press the spindle down so it is fully located. If required place the ring weight over the sample holder. Now select the number of rubs and press the start button after that evaluate the grading after certain cycles and need to record the result.

Safety precaution:

1. When raising the top plate and attaching the top that time needs to do carefully.

2. Do not place your hands during the movement of the machine.
