Chemical properties of viscose rayon fiber
Chemical properties of viscose rayon fiber:
If you are not a technical or textile guy then it is difficult for you to learn or know everything about textile-related terms. Viscose rayon fiber is not an easy chapter but it is a hard and long course for anyone. All types of fiber have their own nature and chemical and physical properties. Like that Viscose rayon fiber also have its own chemical and physical properties.
So today in this blog, I am going to discuss the chemical properties of viscose rayon fiber.
1. Reaction of Alkali: Weak concentrated alkali can not damage viscose rayon fiber. But strong or highly concentrated alkali can damage viscose rayon fiber.
2. Reaction of Acid: Weak concentrated acid can not damage viscose rayon fiber. But strong or highly concentrated acid can damage viscose fiber. If we keep 2% acetic acid or formic acid at room temperature it will not damage viscose rayon fiber. High concentrated sulphuric acid, hydrochloric acid, and nitric acid can damage viscose rayon fiber. This fiber will be hard and brittle if we react with acid and do not wash well. Then it can happen like this.
3. Reaction of bleaching agent: We can use oxidizing and reducing bleaching agents. But strong oxidizing bleaching agents harm it.
4. Action of solvent: Organic solvents like chlorinated hydrocarbons, benzene, toluene, xylene, gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, and pine oil can be used in viscose rayon. All of these chemicals never harm textile viscose rayon fiber. But cuprammonium hydroxide can dissolve viscose rayon.
5. Action of heat: Ultraviolet rays can damage this fiber. Over 300°F it lost its strength. Calendaring temperature is 275°F.
6. Action of micro-organisms: Microorganisms like molds, mildew, fungus, and bacteria can harm it.
7. Dye ability: Viscose fiber has a good dye affinity than cotton fiber. This fiber can be dyed by direct dye, vat, and sulfur dye.
