What is plated jersey? How to make plated jersey?

Plated jersey is top-side cotton or CVC(chief value of cotton) yarn and the inner side uses polyester yarn. We also can develop this fabric as one kind of single jersey derivative fabric in circular knitting. Here two types of yarns are used to make this type of fabric. One yarn show fabrics inside and the other yarn show fabrics outside. Generally, we make it by topside thick polyester and inner side finer count of yarn.

We can make it like normal fabric and also can make it with spandex. Then call it Lycra plated jersey. Today I am going to discuss a plated jersey fabric with full parameters from knitting to finishing. Suppose that we need a plated jersey of 160 grams/square meter.

First of all we need to select yarn count.

Yarn need: 40/1 combed cotton + 50D/36F polyester

Depending on the fabric softness requirement we can use polyester of different qualities. If we use more filament then we will get more softness in the fabric. For example, 50D/72F is very softer than 50D/36F. Due to filament number softness varies.

Machine diameter  x Gauge : 34 x 24

Required diameter  : 68 Inch

Stitch length : 2.70 + 2.60

Here we have a 10 mm difference in stitch length because of recovery of the fabric and there due to this yarn side change will not be easy due to the thickness of the fabric.

Plated jersey can be single part dyed and double part dyed and sometimes it can be also yarn-dyed in different two-color.

After dyeing we dry the fabric in a stentering machine and get:-

Finished width  68 Inches, Gsm 167

Here,

Padder pressure  3/2, Blower 1200, Setting width 182 cm, temperature 130°C, Machine speed: 20 meter/minute.

After that we do compacting at temperature :120°C, Speed 26 mtr/minute , Overfeed 40% , steam : full , Compaction % : 5% , Finished width : 68 inch , finished gsm : 165 .
