Viscose , Modal and Lyocell

  Viscose , Modal and  Lyocell:

Viscose is one type of rayon that is made from natural fibers like wool and agricultural product that are regenerated as cellulose fiber. The structure of cellulose is preserved in the process.

Rayon is manufactured from naturally occurring cellulose. It is never considered being synthetic whereas synthetic fibers are fully made from a synthetic polymer.

Specific types of rayon are as below :

1. Viscose

2. Modal

3. Lyocell

These all are different from each other due to their specific manufacturing process and properties of their finished products.

Viscose :

This fiber is made from dissolved wood pulp. Wood pulp can be made from wood or bamboo which are the most commonly used. Cellulose pulps are dissolved in sodium hydroxide in the presence of carbon disulfide. This viscose solution is named viscose fiber. To make ripened viscose solution it is treated with a mineral acid such as H2SO4.

Modal :

Modal is one type of rayon, a semi-synthetic cellulose fiber made by spinning reconstituted cellulose. Modal is used alone or with spandex and can be made into good products. Modal is processed in different conditions to produce a fiber that is stronger and more stable than standard rayon when it is wet in. It has the same soft hand feel like cotton. It can be tumble dry without damaged due to increased molecular alignment. The fiber is pill less than cotton due to lower surface friction.

Lyocell :

Lyocell is a form of rayon that consist of cellulose fiber made from dissolving pulp using dry jet wet spinning. It was developed in 1972 by a team of. American AATCC has developed in 2003. Dry jet wet spinning is a manufacturing process for creating polymer fibers. Spinneret uses it here to produce.
