Polypropylene yarn type and characteristics
Polypropylene yarn :
Propylene is a by-product of petroleum. During the polymerization of propylene gas with the addition of liquid metal and in a state of under controlled polymerization this fiber is produced. Titanium chloride is a liquid metal that is used to polymerize. Polypropylene is made by melt spinning and this is the easiest spinning process.
Types of propylene yarn :
This kind of fiber has a variety of forms and a wide range of diameters. Some are white that can be dyed and some have pigments that are not dye-able. Some are bright, some are dull and some have more prevent power to light and some have more tolerability of heat.
There are 5 types of propylene fiber.
1. Monofilament yarn
2.Multifilament yarn
3.Fibrilated yarn
4.Spun yarn
5.Textured yarn
1. Monofilament yarn :
From different filaments, we can make monofilament yarn. This type of yarn has a greater range from 150 deniers to 10,000 deniers.
2. Multifilament yarn :
In multifilament yarn, there is more filament in the yarn. Here we can find 34 to 420 pcs filament. Available are 60 deniers to 4500 deniers.
3. Fibrillated yarn :
If we cut a polypropylene sheet and twist it with monofilament then it is called fibrillated yarn.
4. Spun yarn: If we make polypropylene fiber in a staple length we can use that to make no woven fabric. Also can be possible to make the yarn as cotton or wool by spinning.
5. Textured yarn: Multifilament polypropylene fiber can be textured or crimped. These crimped filaments are thrown and make yarn.
Polypropylene fiber characteristics :
1. This fiber has a circular or elliptical cross-section.
2. This fiber is not white.
3. Tenacity is 3.5-8.
4. Viscosity:0.91.
5. Stretch and elasticity are good.
6. Resiliency is good.
7. Abrasion resistance is good.
8. Moisture regain 0.1%
9. Melting point is 170 degrees centigrade
10. Moderate heat conductivity.
