Sewing thread, classification of sewing thread, description of sewing thread:
Sewing thread is the most important element of a garment. If we want to make a garment we need yarn and needles first. Sewing thread can be of various colors & structures. It is very important to the selection of sewing thread. A good quality sewing thread contains strength, elasticity, shrinkage, fiber element of the yarn, and count of the yarn. Yarn or thread quality increases the garment quality and durability. We can classify yarn/thread into 3 special kinds.
They are :
1. Fiber types
2. Construction of the yarn
3. Finishing of the yarn.
Elaborate discussion :
1. Below discussion about fiber types :
a) Cotton thread: This is mostly used in the world as a sewing thread. It is very easy to sew clothes with cotton thread. This fiber thread is not more protective against load and abrasion. The cotton thread also has three qualities: Mercerised cotton, soft cotton thread, and glazed cotton thread.
b) Linen thread: Linen yarn has also been used to sew garments in the past but in the new era not use linen thread.
c) Viscose thread: The strength of viscose thread is not so good that's why this thread is comparatively less used. But this thread is bright. In embroidery, viscose yarn is used more.
d) Silk thread: Silk is made of continuous filament and broken filament. This thread is strong and can be expanded. This type of thread is of various colors, they are silver lurex and golden lurex. Due to precious this type of thread is used only in valuable garments.
e) Polyester thread: This is one kind of artificial or man-made fiber yarn. This yarn has good strength, price, not more, have elasticity. This thread is mostly used over all types of synthetic thread.
f) Nylon thread: This thread has more extensibility so we can use this thread in swimming dresses, and knit dresses.
g) Aramide thread: This is a rarely used thread. To sew fireproof garments this type of thread is used.
2. Based on the construction of the thread :
a) Monofilament: This type of yarn has no twist and this is continuous filament. This is thicker than other filament or thread.
b) Multifilament thread: Some continuous filaments are twisted altogether to make this type of thread. Two sew shoe it is used in the leather industry.
c) Textured thread: Some filaments are altogether texturing and make this type of thread. Texturing means crimp in the thread. Texturing can be done in some ways like false twisting, air-jet, edge crimping, etc. Polyester and nylon both are used to make this type of thread.
d) Core spun thread: This type of thread is made of continuous filament and staple fiber. The continuous filament is in the core of the thread and around the thread is warped by cotton. This type of yarn dyeing costs more.
3. Finishing of thread :
To avoid the friction between thread and needle. Synthetic thread can be damaged by the heat of the needle. If we use a lubricant then it can be saved from broken. Finishing agents are used based on the use of the field. Suppose that, if we use in waterproof cloth then the thread also needs to be waterproof.
