  Disperse dyeing, Carrier, function of carrier & properties of the carrier :

Carrier: Carrier is one kind of organic compound that works as a substantive swelling agent. During dyeing or printing of hydrophobic fiber like polyester fiber, dye uptake percentage can be increased by adding a carrier. Carrier use in dye bathes and printing paste.  

The function of Carrier:

1. Make dye film on the surface of the fiber. 

2. In bath carrier transport due to the fiber from dye carrier association. 

3. Increase solubility of dispersed dye.

4. Carrier enter through the chain of polyester and reduce the attraction of polyester chain and polyester chain be movable and then dyestuff easily enter into the fiber.

5. Fiber swelling increasing.

6. Carrier also have the same ester structure which is liquid and the carrier behave as co fiber of polyester chain and it decreases the actual polyester ester chains attraction and fiber attracts carrier chain. And due to having a dye solubility character in the carrier, it absorbs dyestuff. 

7. Carrier makes dye bath hydrophilic environment where dye moves fast.

8. Thermally agitated fiber molecules can be lubricated by the carrier. 

9. Increase dye absorbency.

10. Increase fiber absorbency.
