Chemicals used in pigment dyeing

  Chemical used in pigment dyeing

There is much chemical use in pigment dyeing. These chemicals are binder, fixer, anti-migration agent, and catalyst.

Binder: Binder is such a compound that do reaction with both fiber and pigment and helps to fix up coloring with textile material. The binder is one kind of film former made of various types of polymer. This polymer has a functional group that makes the hard film by cross-linking during the curing operation. As a result, pigments are hardly adjacent to fiber properly.

Fixer: Fixer is one kind of cross-linking agent used to cross-linking the dye molecules. Dimethylol urea, dimethylol ethylene urea, and Hexamethylol melamine are examples of fixers.

Anti-migration agent: This chemical is used to increase emulsion viscosity and hinder to be precipitated and help not to be spread outside the area of the printed area that all are called an anti-migration agent. It is also called a Migration inhibitor. For example Sodium alginate, Carboxy methyl cellulose, Gum Arabic, etc.

Catalyst: All catalyst work as an acid-liberating agent. It helps with cross-linking and binder fixation.

Some catalysts are Amonium sulfate, Amonium fluoride, Di-ammonium phosphate, etc.
